Though delayed by our current calendar, this is a night of dread and anticipation. And, inevitably, toasts. Mine tend to start with something like "Here we all are..." because fellowship is something to be celebrated. The lyrics are for two (antiphonal) voices:
Here we all are in the shadow of a star.
We dance and sing ‘til twelve chimes ring.
Its course now run…the elder year is done.
Hidden from the light--on this, our darkest night--
to keep the cold away and end the waning day
we greet the morn as another year is born!
